On 20 January 1975 a female, southern white rhinoceros (Ceratotherium simum simum) was born at the San Antonio Zoo. The animal appeared normal until 16 February 1975, when diarrhea was noted. Clinical examination indi cated dehydration, weakness, and severe fluid diarrhea. Treatment included oral sulfanomides, neomycin, and belladonna alkaloidsa, intra muscular injections of sodium sulfachlorpyrida zine*3 and 4 cc of atropine (1 /120 gr/cc).
